Q & A: Starting Therapy

You’ve got questions, I’ve got answers!

Let’s go over some common questions about starting therapy:

Question: I’ve never been to therapy before! What will a typical session be like?

Answer: Whether you come in office or meet online, sessions will be similarly structured. Sessions are 50 minutes in length and we work together to establish trust, understand your unique concerns and goals. Therapy is much like going to the gym- depending on what kind of goals you’d like to experience will depend on the form of therapy you do.

Question: How do I know if therapy is right for me?

Answer: Therapy is a unique and beneficial experience for people in all stages of life. You can expect to explore your life experiences, values, and beliefs, and while learning about your brain and behaviors. Therapy is different for all who participate because your worldview is unique to you. At The Therapy Loft, we believe you are the expert in your life and we are here to help you find clarity so you can improve your relationship with yourself. The results of having a deeper connection and greater understanding of yourself means you will likely experience improved relationships and behaviors.

The frequency of therapy is determined by you and your therapist depending on your unique goals and differs for each client. There may be times that you will benefit from weekly sessions, just as there may be times you benefit from monthly or bimonthly sessions- all depends on what you are looking for.

Question: Your website mentions you work with women, do you only work with female identifying individuals?

Answer: I primarily work with adult women because of the areas of treatment that I specialize in such as women’s issues, relationships, trauma, body image and self esteem, and perinatal mental health. However, I do work with men and teens. I have found that those who are seeking a collaborative space benefit from the skills and expertise that I offer, regardless of their gender or orientation.
